CAREER HIGHLIGHTS The Nippon Sports Science University graduate became a golf instructor to make living. He quickly became a popular teaching professional because of his easy to understand and effective instruction. While teaching amateur golfers, he continued practicing to be a touring professional. After failing four times to earn a tour card, he finally became a touring professional at his age of 27. Murota earned $980,000 and the 6th ranking on the JGTO money list in 1992. That same year, he represented Japan in the World Cup of Golf. Although he played on the Japan Golf Tour the following three seasons, he lost his privilege from 1996 to 1998. He came back to the tour in 1999 and gained his exempt status for the 2000 season. In 2000, he improved his game dramatically. Murota achieved 5 top-10s and finished 27th on the JGTO money list. The 19-year veteran has 8 career victories in Japan. In addition to his golf prowess, he also has a diploma to teaching in high school. Murota is a mentor for many young Japanese golfers who hope to be top professionals, and is well liked and very popular with fans on the tour. |
