CAREER HIGHLIGHTS Sasaki delighted the Japanese golf world with a surprising first career victory at 1994 Golf Japan Series, which is the first of 4 JGTO titles. After his second JGTO title, the Japan PGA Championship, he had the privilege of representing Japan in the World Cup of Golf in China in his debut to international competition. He shot a sensational opening round, which was a World Cup record, of 10-under-par 62. He surprised America's Davis Love III, by playing in a 5-hole playoff for the Individual Trophy. Although he lost the playoff, he gained a lot of confidence from the experience. His performance in the World Cup earned him exempt status at the 1995 PGA Tour qualifying school. In 1996, Sasaki played 20 PGA events and was ranked 159th on the money list ($105,651). He underwent a right wrist operation after the 1997 season and was forced to take a year off. In 2000, he finally came back playing a very competitive golf game. He finished 14th on the JGTO money list with 8 top-10 finishes. |
