POSTURE
As time and aging reinforce our poor posture habits, our bodies drift away from
ideal alignment. Before we even notice, backs become rounded, heads tilt forward, and
hip bones tilt one side or the other.
Not only does poor posture affect appearance, it creates unnecessary stress on the body.
Lower back pain and neck stiffness are chronic symptoms of poor posture. Other
symptoms are joint pain during exercise and increased chance of injury.
Ideal posture allows the body to function efficiently.
Ideal posture, when viewed from the side, generates a perfectly straight vertical line
connecting the ear, the shoulder, hip, knee, and the ankle joint.
When viewed from the front, horizontal lines through the shoulders, though the pelvis and
through the knees should all run parallel to the ground.
The head, torso, pelvis, and legs should look as though they are piled up on each other in
perfect alignment. If any of these positions are misaligned, even slightly, negative physical
and mental effects result.
Correcting the body’s posture and improving symmetry improves mental and physical
health and appearance.
